Why do the table and sandbox start from different numbers?

The retained 16 rows sum to 22 hits, 65 at-bats, 6 walks and 39 total bases. Their final cumulative line is .338 / .394 / .600 (.994 OPS). The sandbox instead starts from 21 hits, 64 at-bats, 6 walks and 38 total bases. Its output is a separate what-if calculation, not an extension of the table.

No verified post or box-score source authenticates the game rows, opponents, scores, streak flags or hit coordinates. The field has 21 illustrative points, while the rows contain 22 hits. Neither diagram nor sandbox predicts a future series.

Try a worked example

Default added outcomes are two singles, one double, one home run, one walk and eight at-bat outs. They add 4 hits in 12 AB, 13 modeled PA and 8 TB. Combined with the separate baseline, that gives 25 / 76 = .329 AVG, 32 / 83 = .386 simplified OBP and 46 / 76 = .605 SLG. The sandbox adds those rounded components to display .991 OPS.

Read the arithmetic and its omissions

MLB defines slugging as total bases per at-bat, weighting singles, doubles, triples and home runs by one through four. MLB: Slugging percentage

Here “Doubles” adds two total bases per hit. It is not an all-extra-base category: home runs already have their own control. The cumulative table computes OPS from unrounded components; the sandbox rounds OBP and SLG first, so last-digit differences can arise.

MLB OBP includes hit-by-pitches. This worksheet omits HBP and sacrifice-fly inputs, so (H + BB)/(AB + BB) is a simplified model. MLB: On-base percentage

OPS is OBP plus SLG. It is not a batting average or a probability. MLB: OPS

With zero added at-bats, the series AVG display uses .000 as a placeholder. Adding only walks changes the combined OBP but supplies no added at-bat average. The five stepper values can be reset without changing any table row.

Keep provenance separate from plausible arithmetic

A verified analysis would reconcile the date range against dated box scores, include all required denominator fields, and link hit coordinates to tracked plays. Matching a plausible average is insufficient: several different records can produce similar summaries.

Filters dim unmatched timeline buttons; the full table and CSV remain unchanged. The top cards and PNG summarize all retained rows, not the selected row or sandbox scenario. CSV explicitly labels each row as an unverified authored fixture. Selecting a game tile by keyboard or pointer updates its inspector and table highlight.
