Full Autonomy: Registered Physiotherapists (PTs) in Canada can operate exclusively in private orthopedic clinics, sports medicine facilities, or private practice without completing a medical residency. Unlike orthopedic surgeons who require an MD and Royal College residency, licensed PTs are primary healthcare practitioners authorized to assess and treat musculoskeletal pathology directly.

Nutrition Counseling Scope-of-Practice Permitted Scope

Permitted for general health/wellness; clinical dietetics restricted

PTs may educate clients on supportive recovery, anti-inflammatory dietary habits, hydration, and general metabolic wellness. However, diagnosing nutritional deficiencies, prescribing restrictive therapeutic diets for systemic illnesses (e.g. chronic kidney failure, insulin-dependent diabetes), or titrating clinical medical diets is legally restricted to Registered Dietitians (RDs).
