How Biological Summation Works
An electrocyte is a modified muscle cell. At rest, both anterior and posterior faces sit at -84 mV, canceling out to 0 mV net cell potential.
Upon neural acetylcholine activation, Na+ ion channels open on the posterior membrane only, shifting its charge to +66 mV. This creates a net 150 mV potential across each electrocyte. Stacking 5,000 cells in series yields over 750 Volts!
