Mechanistic Insight: Extinction therapy does not erase the original fear memory trace in the Basolateral Amygdala (LA). Instead, repeated non-reinforced Conditioned Stimulus (CS) presentations engage the mPFC Infralimbic Cortex (IL) to drive Long-Term Potentiation (LTP) at GABAergic Intercalated Cells (ITC), suppressing Central Amygdala (CeA) output.
