King Harald V: 35-Year Reign (1991–2026)

1991 • Accession & Blessing

Succeeded King Olav V on January 17, 1991. Swore solemn oath in the Storting (Article 9) and received the traditional royal blessing in Nidaros Cathedral, Trondheim.

1994 • Lillehammer Winter Olympics

Declared the XVII Olympic Winter Games open in Lillehammer. Harald was himself a 3-time Olympic sailor (Tokyo 1964, Mexico 1968, Munich 1972).

2011 • Utøya & July 22 Address

Delivered a landmark speech of national unity and democratic resilience following the 2011 terrorist attacks, affirming open society and compassion.

2016 • Celebrated Garden Speech

Affirmed modern Norwegian identity: «Norwegians believe in God, Allah, Everything and Nothing... Norway is you. Norway is us.»

2026 • Royal Legacy

Completed a 35-year reign defining the modern, popular, and deeply unified Norwegian constitutional monarchy.
