Genome-wide ancient DNA shows initial Lapita voyagers (~3,000 BP) had almost unadmixed East Asian / First Remote Oceanic ancestry. A secondary Papuan-related pulse rapidly reached Vanuatu by 2,700 BP (~38%), but was impeded by the 820 km open ocean gap, taking an extra 500 years to establish in Fiji (~2,200 BP, ~24%).
