The "Bangin' in the Schoolyard" Lore

In Season 4 of Martin (1996), Martin Lawrence's character boasted he could easily outplay women's basketball stars on the blacktop. He recruited Tommy and Cole, only to get thoroughly dismantled by USA Olympic Gold Medalists and future Hall-of-Famers Sheryl Swoopes, Dawn Staley, Teresa Edwards, and Rebecca Lobo.

This simulator recreates the physics and court geometry of challenging elite perimeter defenders who take away clean angles and contest every release.

Shooting Arc & Rim Geometry Physics

A regulation basketball rim is 18 inches (45.7 cm) in diameter, and the ball is 9.4 inches (23.9 cm). When a shot enters at a 35° flat angle, the effective target diameter shrinks to barely 10.3 inches.

  • 35° Flat Arc: Low margin for error; steep bounce off the back rim.
  • 48°–52° Optimal Arc: Rim aperture opens to over 14 inches; softer bounce.
  • Contested Pressure: Heavy contests force high arc compensation (55°+), requiring significantly higher leg power.

Analytical Export & Replay

Every shot traces real 3-dimensional trajectory kinematics accounting for gravity (g = 9.81 m/s²), initial velocity vectors, backboard elasticity, and defender reach heights.
