The Taasheer (التعشير) war dance requires the performer to leap vertically into the air and discharge a un-bulleted, powder-loaded matchlock or flintlock musket toward the earth precisely at peak airborne elevation or during descent.
Conservation of Momentum: When ignited, the expanding combustion gases eject downward with high directional momentum ($p_{\text{gas}} = m_{\text{powder}} \cdot v_{\text{exhaust}}$). This creates an upward and angular recoil impulse on the jumper's arms and torso, countering gravity briefly and altering rotational orientation ($m_{\text{jumper}} \cdot \Delta v = -p_{\text{gas}}$).
Ground Shockwave Expansion: The downward supersonic gas expansion creates a visible expanding pressure ring and dust shockwave on the desert terrain beneath the performer upon landing.
History of the Hijazi Military Art Form
Originating in the Western Arabia (Hijaz region)—traditionally practiced among tribes such as the Tuwayriq, Thaqif, and Otaibah—Taasheer was historically a pre-battle display of martial vigor, marksmanship confidence, and intimidation.
