How Gobi Molten Salt CSP Achieves 24/7 Power

Unlike standard PV solar, CSP uses thousands of sun-tracking mirrors (heliostats) to reflect direct normal irradiance (DNI) onto a central tower receiver. Liquid nitrate salt is pumped from the cold tank (290°C) up the tower, heated to 565°C, and stored in an insulated hot salt tank. When solar flux drops or night arrives, hot salt is dispatched through a steam generator boiler to continuously drive turbines and deliver baseload electricity without intermittency.
