Start with the sale you can defend

An asking price is an invitation, not a completed transaction. Before buying inventory, build more than one scenario from comparables that resemble your actual item.

Put it into practice

Match the comparable carefully

Use condition, model and included parts to narrow the evidence. A complete boxed item can command a different price from an incomplete one even when their product names match. Keep the reason for each estimate in your notes.

Include a weaker outcome

Enter a lower-price scenario that would still be plausible if your first listing receives little interest. Use the same real acquisition, packing and shipping costs across the scenarios so the comparison isolates the changed assumption.

Decide from the entire cost model

Inspect the profit after fees and the return on your item cost. Neither measure includes your time unless you put a labor amount into the other-cost allowance. The numbers can help you pass on a weak purchase, but they cannot guarantee a sale.

A worked example

A missing charger means the best-looking comparable may be inappropriate. Use evidence for a similarly incomplete item instead of subtracting an invented small discount from a complete sale.

Resale price and time sensitivity comparison

A resale decision can look attractive at one optimistic price and weak at a lower price or longer holding time. Enter several price-and-time scenarios with your actual costs and fee assumptions to compare the cash outcome side by side.

Selling time is an assumption you provide, not a market forecast. Profit per assumed day is simple division and does not represent a recurring daily income. Return on item cost excludes labor and any cost you did not enter.

What to keep in mind

This page does not fetch sold listings or know your marketplace's current fees. Enter the actual fee basis and rates from your account. Tax, returns and your time are separate costs unless you include them.

Sift's listing focuses on resale research, sell-through and visible buy-or-pass arithmetic. It describes estimating proceeds after platform fees and showing the sales evidence used for an estimate.
