Bring evidence and a focused question

An expert can work more effectively with clear observations than with a demand to confirm an app's guess. Summarize what is visible and what remains unknown.

Put it into practice

Separate observations from labels

Record the features you saw in the comparison rows. Put tentative names in the observation labels only if they remain clearly tentative; do not rewrite a suggested identity as established fact.

State the unresolved question

Ask which additional evidence would help distinguish the possibilities. A focused question about a missing view or structure is more useful than claiming two specimens must be the same because their text descriptions match.

Keep the safety boundary explicit

This worksheet cannot assess edibility, toxicity or suitability for handling. Do not consume a specimen based on the comparison or a photo identifier. Follow appropriate local expertise and avoid disturbing protected or sensitive sites.

A worked example

You can share a table saying the substrate differs and the underside of one specimen is unknown. That is an honest review package; declaring a species from those differences would go beyond the evidence.

Side-by-side plant and fungi observation evidence worksheet

Similar-looking specimens deserve separate records. Put the visible features of two observations side by side to see which details differ and which are still missing. The tool compares your entered wording; it does not name a species or determine whether either specimen is safe.

Identical text is not proof of identical biology. Different text can reflect lighting, wording or incomplete observation. The worksheet preserves uncertainty and does not produce an identification confidence score or an edibility assessment.

Inputs are processed in this page. Nothing is submitted to the app or a business. Download a result to keep it; this page does not automatically save your work.

What to keep in mind

This notebook cannot identify a species or establish whether anything is safe to eat. Do not rely on a photograph, app or exported note to decide edibility. Avoid disturbing specimens or disclosing sensitive locations.

Fieldmark's listing describes confidence bands, genus-level fallback and guided questions for plant and fungi identification. It says the app does not certify edibility and highlights dangerous lookalikes.
