Treat the index as private too

A manifest does not contain full document content, but its file names can still reveal personal information. Decide what to retain and where before sharing or archiving the export.

Put it into practice

Review the names in the preview

A file name may include a person's name, a condition or another identifying detail. The browser has no reason to change the source names silently, so you should decide whether a renamed local copy is more appropriate for the inventory.

Preserve the connection to originals

If you rename copies, keep a mapping that lets you retrieve the actual source record. A privacy-conscious label is useful only if you can still identify the file you need later.

Separate inventory from submission

Downloading the CSV does not send evidence to VA, a VSO or any other recipient. Share only what the intended process actually requires through an appropriate route, and verify receipt separately. The index is an organizational aid, not proof of a filing.

A worked example

An anonymized file label can make a review copy less revealing. Its checksum still records the selected copy's bytes, but you remain responsible for storing the original and knowing what the label refers to.

Local document file inventory and SHA-256 integrity manifest

When several copies of a document exist, file names alone may not show whether their bytes match. Select local files to create a manifest of names, sizes, file timestamps and SHA-256 checksums. The browser reads them locally and exports a CSV without uploading their contents.

A checksum identifies file bytes, not whether a document is authentic, complete or sufficient evidence for a claim. File metadata timestamps are not issue dates. This tool does not parse medical content, fill a VA form, determine eligibility or submit anything.

Inputs are processed in this page. Nothing is submitted to the app or a business. Download a result to keep it; this page does not automatically save your work.

What to keep in mind

The organizer is educational preparation, not representation, a benefits determination or legal advice. VA says accredited Veterans Service Organization representatives help with benefit claims for free. Use official VA instructions and qualified help for your situation.

Claimpath's listing describes rating arithmetic, condition criteria, deadline tracking and filled forms. It also states that the app is not accredited to represent a claimant before VA.
